Eliza

Found in a backup folder: an empty-looking file called "Eliza", dated 18 May 1985. It turned out to be a classic Mac application - Charles Hayden's implementation of Joseph Weizenbaum's ELIZA (Communications of the ACM, Jan. 1966) - and its 42-keyword script survived intact.

This is a faithful port of that actual 1985 ruleset, decompositions, reassemblies, synonyms, and its "memory" mechanic included, rebuilt to run in a browser rather than on a 68k Mac. Nothing here is invented - including the odd grammatical rough edges, which are exactly as authored forty-one years ago.

The 1966 concept is Weizenbaum's, the 1985 script and Mac application are Charles Hayden's. The 2026 archaeology and JavaScript reconstruction were a collaboration between Zelda Rhiando and Claude (Anthropic).
